Can a sound “feel” like a laid-back lackadaisical summer with an “I don’t give a fuck attitude” Portland, Oregon’s Summer Cannibals sophomore release, Show Us Your Mind, a chill, hang-out-on-the-back-porch and have-a-cold-beverage kind of album, does…again though, with attitude.

Then, I heard a sampling of their third album, Full Of It again, set for release on May 27th, which is definitely a step in a new direction.  Heavier, lush, and helmed by producer Chris Woodhouse (Oh Thee I See, Wild Flag), this record turns up the vigorous fervor in their composition. Armed with grooving fuzzy chops, intense guitar hooks, and attitude for miles, a first listen brings a refreshing mix of alternative rock, punk sensibilities, Pacific Northwest garage throwback, with a touch of riot girl zeal.

Formed in 2012, the band is fronted by lead guitarist and vocalist Jessica Boudreaux, who breathlessly sings life into the songs. Supported by a new powerhouse rhythm section of drummer Devon Shirley (former of Denver band The Photo Atlas) and bassist Jenny Logan,Summer Cannibals now also has the support of Seattle label Kill Rock Stars—and yes, I know, I normally focus on unsigned bands on #UnsignedTuesdays, but this new release is just too good not to share!

This gritty, fuzzy, new release is a quintessential rock album in the vein of Slater-Kinney, Bikini Kill, or any number of the heyday Riot Grrrrllll groups birthed in the Pacific Northwest.

On May 29th, Summer Cannibals will tour across most of the middle United States before heading south to Texas and Arizona.

Album Full of It again is being released May 27th.

Show them some love on Facebook, Twitter, and their official site!

About Hunter: Hunter is a freelance music writer that concentrates on finding outstanding, unsigned, unknown and under appreciated bands from around the world and unabashedly wields them onto the unsuspecting and the great unwashed. His work has appeared on music sites kilScene (NYC/Brooklyn), Mother Church Pew (NYC), and East of Eighth (Nashville). One of his writings has even been shared and press quoted by a Grammy Nominated artist (Do the Grammy's even matter anymore?!) After a particularly difficult and surreal week of work about five years ago Hunter decided to search the dark, dusty corners and obscure underbelly of the Internet. It was after hearing one of the same 30 songs that a so called "New Rock" radio station played yet again on his way home. That is what started him n his quixotic quest. Since then through many seasons of bleeding ears, anguish, and many neurotic episodes, he has learned well how to hone the power of the Internet in his search. Along with that, he has a vast array of concerts and music rouges throughout the US and around the world, and his goal is to find some of the most unique, fresh, and kick you in the ear hole artists and bands.
